Audio Engineer/Sound Engineer An audio engineer works with the reproduction, recording, and mixing of sound. This is a broad term that can be applied to someone working the soundboard at a live show, someone who records and mixes audio in a studio, or someone who helps construct rooms for audio quality. Mixing 1 ) Engineering Mixing is the process of taking all the individual elements of a song or instrumental and forming them together into something that sounds good. Often times sound engineers try to give each instrument its own space in the mix and make sure that elements don’t overlap each other. This is more of an art than a science. A good mix is very subjective and depending on the genre of music you’re mixing for there is a different set of standards for what constitutes a good mix. 2 ) DJing In DJing, mixing generally referrers to blending multiple songs together and playing them out at the same time on the live mix.
