Performance preparation blog: Absolute Zero

Ok, so I had a crazy day today. A month removed from living in Tallahassee, Florida.I was adjusting back to Miami style and now I found myself purchasing a bus ticket back to Tally.

I actually had one last show to do with my soon to be disbanded psychedelic blues, hip-hop, funk band Blind Math. We were to perform at Bread and Roses Sunday September 6th for Tallahassee’s Rotten Fest. You can still buy tickets at rottenfest.com .

I expected to spend a weekend in Tallahassee and then return to Miami. It should have been nothing special come in, get out. The trip had immediately become more complicated when I found out that I couldn’t just spend the weekend because I got a last minute opportunity to open for Cakes Da Killa.

I personally really fuck with Cakes. So I feel like it was an amazing opportunity to be able to open for him on Thursday, the 10th in Club Down Under at FSU. Cool, I love that venue and they’ve always treated me well. They pay you some money and buy you good good, so it’s all good. So, right as I’m about to make this bus ticket purchase. I look at my phone to see a text from Black Tarzan. The text read “DME and Cap 6 open for ILOVEMAKONNEN Septermber 17th at the moon. Get Ready”.

I was like fuck, this changes everything. Last year, 2014 was a big year for DME. Black Tarzan, Darvon Wilson, and I started DJing and the band was in full force. I guess it just seems as though the work we put in to get our name out in the scene is paying off. Now that we have these invitations, Cap 6 just opened for Vince Staples and Vintage Tux looks like they will be touring Europe.

I’ll be honest; I doubted whether the scene was growing. I equally doubted if we would ever even get the chance to even be heard. But despite that our need to keep making music kept us going. The drive to keep getting better and compete with all the dope acts in Tallahassee kept us working, releasing and promoting.

I finally feel like we are at the point where the recognition is starting to come. I’m going to take this chance and make the most of it.

I would have never expected to be opening for Ilovemakonnen or even Cakes Da Killa. But now that it’s happening, I’m going to go all out. Like on some Eminem one chance to blow type shit. Leggo!
