I had to help one of the people I stay with get to work; she crashed her car the day I got here. Luckily she had scheduled her vacation for this week, so not having a vehicle didn’t hurt her as much. Unfortunately they did plan to spend the week away from home, so the money that they had budgeted towards travel expenses is now going to vehicle repair . So there was that, I cleaned up the area I was staying in a bit. Its always good to be a modest house guest. performance Preparation #11 : Absolute Zero September 11th – September 11, 2015 Blog 11 Here is the next installment of my daily blog, leading up the ILoveMakonnen show on the 17th. Look at the previous installments before you start reading this one. Performance preparation blog(s): Absolute Zero It was the day after the show with Cakes The Killa and I was tired as hell. I danced a ton in my set. Cakes encouraged me to dance on stage during Obey City‘s set and I danced with a bunch of girls in the crowd during Cake‘s performance. As you might imagine this left me lethargic as hell the next day( today). That being said there was work to be done, and I had a queue of Personal Preparations to write and sort(Sorry RJ). Sometimes I feel the grind(RJ literally sending me messages any and every way he can to get the work done), but I know it will be worth it when I get on stage for the show next Thursday. I was waking up at 6 AM every day in Miami. The adjustment of trying to not wake up hours before I can do any work is taking some time. As it turns out yesterday we had massive miscommunication. We scheduled a practice time, for the pre-show practice that Network was not going to be available for(personal reasons). I was Network‘s ride so I had to stay with him. By his estimation (time),he would finish what he needed to do by 4:50 PM . We would be able to practice for an hour, before sound check at 6:30 PM. In a cruel twist of fate, we weren’t able to make it out of the house until right before sound check. As someone who has done sound, at shows. I never ever, ever, and I mean ever, miss a sound check. We only had one practice so far. Show day is coming up and we can’t do a full practice yet(damn). However we will need to take care of our voice for the performance. So that being said, I feel really confident about everything. We were able to fix almost all the kinks, we had in yesterday’s set. We pretty much ran though the set with no problems. Well, except for a few instrumentals that we have to get from Outlaw. We planned to go over there after the practice. Since the practice went flawlessly, we just took the trip over to Outlaw’s place. Look at the previous installments before you start reading this one. Performance preparation blog(s): Absolute Zero Today I woke up and made a quick trip to Gamescape in Tallahassee, Fl. I had some store credit left on my account. I finally had a moment to spend it and they have a dope setup. They have tables for TCG players like Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh. They added a new comics sections since I left (which looked quite robust). They have PS4s, XBones, Computers, a Duel Terminal, and something that was unexpectedly pleasant… they had Steam Machines. If you don’t know what a Steam Machine is, it is basically a gaming laptop minus a screen and a keyboard(note: this is called a Box, it is for gaming). It’s a third of the size of a XBone and has superior specs despite it. They actually replaced their large Alienware towers with Steam boxes because they saved them space and money, while maintaining performance. It was the day after rocking the Blind Math show and seeing KRS- ONE. It feels like time is flying cause I just realized we really only have 3 days to practice until the Cakes Da Killa show. We know our material for the most part but there is still a lot to finish. We need to meet so we can finalize the track listing. Also we have to figure out how we are going to DJ the set. We haven’t had time to do any in person promotion for the most part; we still need to track down some equipment to even get practice started. It was an awesome day and I shared some feels with people I hadn’t seen in a while. I saw a legendary hip-hop artist, plus I rocked it out with the band Blind Math. To start the day, the band had to practice. Today was show day and we hadn’t practiced at all. Thankfully, Blind Math has a ton of experience doing shows and improvising so we could almost perform in our sleep. This is even more true if we perform our core songs, instead of our normal four piece setup. We went with a three piece all acoustic set up, No mics, no amplifiers, no problem. That was the order of the day and I didn’t deviate from it that much. I have made that drive over a dozen times from Miami to Tallahassee and this had to be one of the most pleasant drives. There were just a few moments where I was driving and the scenery was breathtaking. For example somewhere in central Florida the clouds were in a stack. The strange and beautiful thing is that the clouds were pink and blue colors. They seemed to have the character of a painting canvassed onto the sky. It really felt like a psychedelic experience. Opening up for ILoveMakonnen is huge, you never know when the next shot like this is going to come around.“I couldn’t help feeling more than a little disappointed to hear him say that. September 1, 2015 Performance preparation blog: Absolute Zero — Ok, so I had a crazy day today. A month removed from living in Tallahassee, Florida.I was adjusting back to Miami style and now I found myself purchasing a bus ticket back to Tally. I actually had one last show to do with my soon to be disbanded psychedelic blues, hip-hop, funk band Blind Math. We were to perform at Bread and Roses Sunday September 6th for Tallahassee’s Rotten Fest. You can still buy tickets at rottenfest.com . I expected to spend a weekend in Tallahassee and then return to Miami. It should have been nothing special come in, get out. The trip had immediately become more complicated when I found out that I couldn’t just spend the weekend because I got a last minute opportunity to open for Cakes Da Killa. I personally really fuck with Cakes. So I feel like it was an amazing opportunity to be able to open for him on Thursday, the 10th in Club Down Under at FSU.
